With the establishment of the CETEC joint venture (Chinamex European Trade and Exhibition Centre B.V.) in September 2007, the partners Chinamex, ING Real Estate Development and Schiphol Real Estate fulfilled their common ambition to develop a large-scale Chinese European trade centre in the surroundings of Schiphol airport.
The large scale Centre should be a European platform for the Chinese ¡®going out' policy, where European professional buyers are able to get in contact directly with hundreds of reputable Chinese producers within specific industries. During the last years, a lot of progress was made, but like most ¡°pioneer¡± projects this one also had many challenges. All parties have shown their enthusiasm and flexibility to adapt the route to success. A good example is the Pilot centre project Zhongshan (Europe) Enterprises Centre with 100 companies in Schiphol area. This initiative was accepted by the CETEC partners at to speed up the process, continuously keeping in mind the feasible growth path towards the large trade centre . Given the current global recession and the project progress, CETEC stakeholders discussed the development of the project and reflected on the continuation of the company. The conclusion is that the belief of all parties in the Dutch-China cooperation has never weakened. Due to the external economic environment, it is wise to freeze the large trade centre project until further review, when European and Chinese markets show signs of recovery. Meanwhile Chinamex will keep working on the Pilot centres to accumulate experience of providing the best service to the Chinese companies, which is essential for the success of the large scale centre project.
